  8. MOST ASKED TECHNICAL PROBLEMS :

  10. Optimizing Performance in Windows v3.1/3.11 or Windows for Workgroups v3.11:
  11.  
  12. *    To run DIVA X make sure you or in 8-bit/256 color mode and are using a
  13.     resolution of 640x480.
  14.  
  15. *    To determine optimum cache configuration, test it by changing the
  16.     command string and then rebooting. Your AUTOEXEC.BAT file should include the following:
  17.  
  18.     C:\DOS\SMARTDRV.EXE 4096 4096 /b:81920
  19.  
  20. 4096 tells the program to use 4 Mbytes of RAM for its cache. (Use 2048 or
  21. 3072 for the second number, if you have 8 Mbytes of system RAM.) See Microsoft Windows* or MS-DOS*
  22. documentation for details on Smartdrive parameters.
  23.  
  24. *    Create a permanent swap file for Windows (again via the Control Panel,
  25.     386 enhanced, Virtual Memory selection) rather than using a temporary swap file.
  26.  
  27. *     your CONFIG.SYS file has a SMARTDRV line that contains the /DOUBLE_BUFFER
  28.     
  29.  switch:
  30.     1.Comment this line out (precede the line with the letters REM followed by a space).
  31.     2.Put the earlier SMARTDRV invocation into your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

  33. *    Use 32-bit disk access. To do this:
  34.             1.Open Control Panel.
  35.             2.Double-click on the 386 Enhanced icon.
  36.             3.Click on the Virtual Memory button.
  37.             4.Create a permanent swap file and make sure the 32-bit disk
  38.             access option is selected
  39.               (the default is 32-bit disk access unselected). (Note: This is
  40.              not available for most SCSI drives.)

  48. Contact Creative Labs and ask for the SB16UP.EXE updated driver.
  49. You can down load the file by calling the Creative Labs BBS (405) 742 - 6660

  53. 1. Cntrl - F1 during boot up - This will launch configuation utility.
  54. 2. Go to third page.
  55. 3. Disable APM Bios.
  56.  Note: The APM Bios may conflict with DIVA X if left enabled.

  61. The latest driver versions for the 9400CXi, 9200CXr, 8900C, 8900CL,
  62. 8900D, 9000i and 9000C
  63. Trident Chipsets all work with DIVA X.  The latest software versions are:

  65. UL6.1 for 9400CXiUC5.1 for 9200CXr, 8900C, 8900CL, and 8900D
  66. UD5.5 for 9000I and 9000C.

  73. Packard Bell Users:

  75. Problem : distorted and broken video display
  76. Solution : Packard Bell technicians strongly recommend at least 1 meg of
  77. video memory in addition to an SVGA monitor
  78. for DIVA X to function properly.

  81. 1. Minimum Hardware Requirements:
  82.     - A personal computer with an 486 or faster CPU.
  83.     - A CPU speed of 66 MHz or higher.
  84.       - SVGA display (VESA compliant) in 8-bit/256 color display.
  85.     - 12 megabytes of conventional and extended memory. (may work on some
  86.          systems with only 8MB of RAM)
  87.       - A CD-ROM drive supported by Microsoft Windows (access time less than
  88.         300ms, and sustained transfer rate of at least 300K per second)
  89.     - A hard disk with at least 4 megabytes free for the basic Video for
  90.       Windows software.
  91.     - Mouse (or other pointing device) supported by Microsoft Windows.
  92.     - A ".WAV" compatible sound card supported by Microsoft Windows.
  93.     - Additional free disk space if you want to keep movies and pictures on
  94.          your hard disk.

  98. Troubleshooting

  101. Installation errors:
  102.  
  103. Symptom:    Program locks up during game play.
  104.  
  105. Possible causes:    Screen saver, disable screen saver and restart.
  106.                 Alternative Desktop (Norton Desktop, etc.), disable and use
  107.             Program Manager.  Background Process, disable all otherprograms. If you have
  108.             an IBM Aptiva or PS1, you may experience this. To remedy this, refer
  109.                   to the top of this document.

  111. Symptom:   "Parity Error" Message
  112.  
  113. Possible causes:    Memory problem. Check with your computer owner's manual for proper
  114.                   machine speed/memory wait-state setting.
  115.  
  116. Symptom:  "General Protection Fault Error..." message box
  117.  
  118. Possible causes:    Video or Audio driver conflict. Check with the manufacturer for the
  119.               latest driver.  ATI video card owners will experience this.  Call ATI at
  120.                  (905) 882 - 2600 and ask for the proper settings for your card model.
  121.
